 キャラクターとは、漫画やアニメに登場する主人公などユニークに性格付けされた架空の人物のことで縮めてキャラと呼んだりもします。キャラクターは絵だけではなくＣＧで作られるバーチャルキャラクターなどがあります。キャラクターをメディアの中に組み込むことによってターゲットとなる子供の頭の中で統合する役割や感情移入の効果があり、キャラクターのメークやファッションで流行に繋がる（キャラ文化）ケースもあります。
